Osteitis Pubis
What is Osteitis Pubis?
Osteitis Pubis is common amongst young athletes, especially AFL football
and other football codes. Osteitis pubis is best described as chronic groin
pain typically coming from the pubic symphysis but affecting the entire
groin and hip region. Symptoms can be severe and if over training and participation
continues, chronic inflammation to the pubic symphysis and even bone stress
to the pubis bones can occur.
What causes Osteitis Pubis?
The main cause of osteitis pubis is extreme muscular imbalance through the
pelvic region causing instability of the pelvic bones, which places stress
on the pubic symphysis.
Osteitis pubis is common in footballers as kicking predominately on one
leg over time builds up a muscular imbalance, which compromises stability
to the region.
Why does Osteitis Pubis become so chronic and take so long to recover
from?
Once the athlete has been diagnosed with osteitis pubis, the clinical approach
is rest and passive treatment.
The problem with prolonged rest is that it further weakens the muscles involved
in the pelvic imbalance. Therefore after rest when the athlete resumes training
osteitis pubis symptoms soon return.
Can Osteitis Pubis be fixed immediately or is the Mainstream Medical
approach to treatment the only option?
Osteitis pubis generates pain and pathology to the groin reason due to extreme
muscular imbalances. The problem with the mainstream approach is that it
purely treats the symptoms of osteitis pubis and does not address the cause.
MMT strongly believe that by eliminating all the symptoms of osteitis pubis
and allowing the athlete to undergo specific intense strengthening exercises
dedicated to eradicating muscular imbalances to the lumbopelvic region that
pain and instability from osteitis pubis can be eliminated for good. In
fact they have many patients including AFL stars, Robert Murphy, Adam Cooney,
Farren Ray as proof that osteitis pubis can be fixed in a very quick fashion.
How do the good peple of Melbourne Muscular Therapies fix osteitis pubis
for good?
-
hands on approach to treatment: a complete clinic assessment of what
muscle imbalances are causing the osteitis pubis’ symptoms. Every single
muscle that attaches to the pelvis is addressed and all muscle tension
eradicated through specific deep intentional gauging of the soft tissue.
Tension and pain coming from Ligamentous and tendinous tissue is eradicated
through deep gauging of the tissue and moxabustion (a unique ancient
Chinese heat treatment with amazing healing properties). Once the tension
and pain from extremely tight muscles deep in the groin and hip region
is eradicated, the athlete will gain pain free movement, but will still
require the weak muscles causing the imbalance and core/ pelvic stabilising
muscles addressed.

Postural Transformation power training: Full body functional compound
exercises are completed under supervision from the therapist. The exercises
stretch all tight muscles and strengthen all weak muscles all through
the same movement. Muscular imbalances are eradicated with every session
bringing the body back to its symmetrical state. Once symmetry is returned
to the athlete’s body, pain free training and participation can be resumed.
Not only will the athlete be free of pain and restriction, but will
have amazing amounts of power, strength and speed even more so that
before they had osteitis pubis.
