WHAT CAUSES CHRONIC BACK PAIN.
Of course causes for back pain vary. What is important to understand is
that the length or level of back pain you are experiencing is not necessarily
a sign of how 'bad' your back actually is. However long - term post injury
symptoms, regardless of wheter the pain is a 3 months old or 3 decades
old, the solution to bad backs is the same. Address strength imbalances,
address posture, remove inflammation and take pressure away from the spine.
You will be amazed at how quickly our techniques have eradicated back
pain in people who have been told they have no hope.
STAGES OF BACK PAIN
- Pre injury: a weakness and muscular imbalance will
start to occur, build up over a period of time. The muscles that support
the spine will weaken, diminishing the support that is required for
normal pain free function.
- Injury: an event will occur that will trigger extreme
pain. Typically an innocuous event, however it is usually the straw
that breaks the camel's back.
- Short term symptoms post injury: Often severe and
debilitating pain, commonly due to pressure on nociceptors (nerve endings),
the periosteum (fascial lining of the bones), and intrinsic muscles
in between the spine. Pressure is from the inflammation to the region
due to injury to the intervertebral discs or even often purely the muscles
in isolation. Superficial muscles in the lower back and gluteal region
may also go into spasm causing further pain.
- Long term post injury symptoms: once the inflammation
settles the pain will decrease significantly in most cases. The worst
of long term symptoms come from the intrinsic muscles between the spine.
Secondarily they come from the constant spasm and tightness of the muscles
in the lower back, hips and through the trunk.
WHY THE PAIN REMAINS PRESENT IN CHRONIC BACK PAIN SUFFERS
Before your pain started, when you could move without restriction and
discomfort, the muscles in your body designed to support your spoine and
pelvis activated subconsciously. Research shows that after a trauma, these
muscles effectively switch off! With these postural muscles gone, other
muscles compensate - this is why you may notice your pain spreads .
The reason why pain remains present for years post back injury is as simple
as this. Regardless of all the diagnosing, scans, and symptom treating,
if your postural muscles are weak, not activating, or both, your pain
will not subside.
WHY DO MOST MODALITIES TREAT THE SYMPTOMS NOT THE CAUSE?
Treating the symptoms makes people feel better, meaning that people become
dependant on regular visits. This is a breilliant business concept for
the therapist, but not great service for the patient in constant pain.
